Our journey through the Sandwich Harbour Dune Tour commences in Walvis Bay, with an option to pick up in Swakopmund 40 minutes earlier. Witness thousands of flamingos gracing the Walvis Bay Lagoon, where we delve into insights about their habitat—the Ramsar-acclaimed Walvis Bay Lagoon Wetland, home to up to 500,000 birds and 54 resident species of waders and Palearctic migrators. Our route leads us past the pink salt lakes of the expansive Salt Works and onto the sandy beach shore. Embark on a desert game drive through the !Nara Valley, seeking Oryx, Ostrich, and Springbuck amid the sparse greenery that sustains these animals. The sandy path guides us to breathtaking dune views, where the dunes meet the sea. Traverse past dilapidated houses of yesteryear, scattered on the beach and disrupted by raging spring tides. Seals and Sandwich Harbour
Join us on our Seals and Sandwich Harbour Adventure Tour, blending a visit to Pelican Point Seal with the Sandwich Harbour. Starting in Walvisbay, our route unfolds with intriguing facts about the Ramsar wetlands of the Walvis Bay Lagoon and the Pink Lakes of the Saltworks. Witnessing 54 bird species, including Flamingos, Pelicans, Turnstone, Avocets, Sandpipers, Plovers, and Terns, we head north to Pelican Point’s 50,000-strong Cape Fur Seal colony. Amidst diverse birdlife, spot black-backed Jackals and Brown Hyena tracks. Get close to photograph, smell, and hear these animals, perhaps finding Sammy, the elusive seal. The lighthouse stands out amidst colossal ships in the bay.
Continuing south on a sandy route over expansive dunes, past dilapidated houses, we ascend towering dunes for a heart-stopping roller coaster ride to the unexpected lush wetland scenery of Sandwich Harbour. Discovering a tranquil spot, we serve a light lunch amidst the quietude and vastness, unravelling the little-known history and geology.
